FASHN-4120: Business Fundamentals
Course Description
This professional practice course explores the necessary and critical elements of business practice to prepare students of design/art/architecture for success in their future careers. The fundamentals of business and entrepreneurship are at the core of this class. The in-class time is a combination of professor lead lectures, active discussions, in-class projects, group participation and guest speakers. Topics covered include an exploration of the following topics, but not limited to: Customers, Revenue, Basic Accounting, Product Development, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Distribution, Cost Analysis, Market Value, Marketing, Sales, Business Plan Development, Intellectual Property, Legal Requirements and more. Introduction to several types of organizations will be covered - for-profit, not for profit, public good, professional practice and sole practitioner.
