PRINT-2160: Etching
Course Description
Etching or intaglio printmaking inlclues different techniques for imaging making created by drawing and scratching lines on metal plates. This historic form of printmedia has been used for centuries by artitsts to create percise, lyrical and expressive graphic images. A wide range of line quality in addition to a rich range of values can be achived through etching. This course will cover demonstrations and hands-on work in electro-etching techniques which is a non-toxic and sustainable etching process. Various methods of putting the image on the plate (hard ground, electro-graphite ground, slelf-aquatint, drypoint, mezzotint etc.) will be covered, as well as the procedures for proofing, correcting, and printing editions. Students are encouraged to explore creative methods that meet individual aesthetic and conceptual needs. Open to beginning and advanced students from any major.
