Required for all printmedia majors, this course surveys the historical evolution and contemporary expressions of etching, lithography, relief, monotype/monoprint, screen print, digital, artists' books, and papermaking. Along with an examination of worldwide antecedents in papermaking, woodcut and stencil printing, the invention of type and the printing press; the Pop Movement of the 60's, the Poster, and the Democratic Multiple will be explored. Particular attention will be given to current trends in printmedia as well as the role printmakers have had in contemporary art.
