Description:
What is the theoretical definition of work that is hybrid to both painting and sculpture? Since the modernist essays of Michael Fried and Frank Stella in the 1960’s, artists have been enjoying a lively freedom as they explore the territory of ideas that are 2D and 3D mutations. Using clay as a base medium this workshop will be an exploration with experiments in mixed media and mixed theories as we define the new domain of image and object combined. This intermediate level workshop focuses on developing higher proficiency in technical areas of ceramics and continuing critical analysis. The studio work is paired with appropriate lectures, demonstrations and field trips.
