How do we make ideas into things? In this class, students will examine ways to explore clay as a medium for describing what we see and experience—through close observation, both of what we encounter in the world and what's inside our heads. Presentations on contemporary craft artists and histories and demonstrations of methods and techniques will enhance individual explorations. Those with experience working with clay will have ample opportunity to build on their existing skills and newcomers to the medium will be given the basic technical skills to make their ideas take form with clay. This course will focus on the extremes of ceramic production in terms of scale, material and context.
