Description:
This course examines the relationship between writing and cinema focusing on film/television adaptations of classic and contemporary literature. We will read essays, novels, short stories and poems, screen their visual adaptations, and explore the choices, challenges and possibilities involved in the transformation from text to film. We will examine how the relationship between text and cinema has influenced and transformed narrative, storytelling and language. Students will engage in creative and critical writing assignments that will culminate in an adaptation of a story/novel/poem/essay into a short screenplay sample OR a film into a story/novel/poem/essay.
